Yes. Solas uses bank-level 256-bit encryption to protect your data. Bank connections use FCA-regulated Open Banking providers — we never see your login credentials and cannot make payments from your accounts. We are fully GDPR compliant.

Yes. Solas submits VAT returns directly to HMRC through the Making Tax Digital API. For income tax, Solas submits quarterly ITSA updates and generates your SA103 form data. You connect to HMRC once via OAuth and Solas handles the rest.

Solas handles day-to-day bookkeeping and tax compliance — receipt scanning, categorisation, VAT returns, and HMRC submissions. For most sole traders, that covers everything. For complex situations (multiple income sources, IR35, international income), we recommend consulting a qualified accountant.

Solas connects to 60+ UK banks via Open Banking, including Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest, Santander, Monzo, Revolut, Starling, Chase, Nationwide, and more. Transactions sync automatically.

You keep full access to the free plan — your data, bookkeeping, invoicing, and HMRC submissions all continue to work. You simply lose access to Premium features like multiple vehicles, actual cost methods, and higher WFH deductions.
